The doctors were protesting against the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which occurred on August 9. After a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, where most of their demands were accepted, the doctors agreed to return to work. Despite this, they continue to seek justice for the victim and demand further action from the government.

Dr. Aqeeb, a representative of the protesting doctors, stated that while they are resuming emergency services, their fight for justice is not over. They will also focus on providing medical aid to flood-affected areas in the state. The doctors expressed their commitment to improve security for female staff in hospitals.

During the strike, they managed to achieve significant concessions, including the resignation of the Kolkata Commissioner of Police and other officials. However, they are still calling for the removal of the principal secretary and improvements to the safety culture in hospitals.

The doctors have planned a rally to continue raising awareness about their demands and issues within the healthcare system. They hope to push for a safer environment for all medical professionals and ensure justice for their colleague.

Overall, the junior doctors are determined to keep fighting for their rights and the safety of their community while gradually returning to provide essential medical services.
