At the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15, 2024, Ayo Edebiri was thrilled to run into country music star Reba McEntire on the red carpet. Edebiri, known for her role in The Bear, couldn’t contain her excitement when she met McEntire.
Ayo Edebiri Meets McEntire at Emmys
Talking to E! News host Laverne Cox, Edebiri shared how she felt “absolutely freaked out” about meeting McEntire. She playfully mentioned that she managed not to sing McEntire’s hit song “I’m a Survivor,” even though she was tempted. Edebiri ended up singing a part of the song, saying, “A single mom that works too hard, who loves her kids and never stops! Hey, I’m a survivor, okay?”

Ayo Edebiri was at the Emmys because she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for The Bear. Other nominees in this category included Quinta Brunson, Selena Gomez, Maya Rudolph, and Kristen Wiig. Jean Smart won the award for her role in Hacks.
In other categories, Ebon Moss-Bachrach from The Bear won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Jeremy Allen White won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the same show. Liza Colón-Zayas won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. The Bear also earned nominations for Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, with Christopher Storer winning for Outstanding Directing.
Reba McEntire, who is a coach on The Voice, is also returning to scripted TV with a new show, Happy’s Place, set to premiere on October 18, 2024.
