The Punjab-Haryana border has been sealed with cement barricades ahead of the Kisan-Mazdoor Mahapanchayat scheduled for September 15, 2024, in Jind, Haryana. This decision was made by the police after the Farmer’s Organisation did not obtain the necessary permissions for the event.
Punjab-Haryana Border Sealed
The police have closed the border in two areas near Kaithal—Guhla Cheeka and Sangatpura—early in the morning. Cement barricades have been set up, and a strong police presence is stationed at the entrance of the Grain Market in Uchana, where the Mahapanchayat is set to take place.

Abhimanyu Kohad, a non-political leader from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, has stated that about 50,000 farmers from Punjab are expected to attend the gathering. He emphasized that the Mahapanchayat aims to address grievances related to the treatment of farmers and laborers by the BJP government, and to demand a law for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The police, led by Uchana SHO Pawan Kumar, have justified the border sealing by citing the lack of authorization from the farmer’s organization. Despite this, the Mahapanchayat is proceeding as planned, with farmers arriving for the event.
In summary, the border closure is a response to the unauthorized gathering, and the Mahapanchayat’s goal is to unite farmers and address their concerns regarding government policies.
