Pankaj Kapur, the veteran actor and father of Shahid Kapoor, is set to star in a new film called Binny and Family. In a recent interview, Kapur shared his thoughts on the generational gap, noting that while today’s youth have access to vast information online, they often lack the experiential wisdom of older generations.

Kapur said that the kind of thinking that is manifested in current youth is the ability to, for instance, Google something. But he also stays positive on the aspect that parents and grandparents all have rich experiences in life and with such knowledge is ought to be priceless. ‘They have many answers on the internet, but parents, grandparents and elders can assist them to accomplish something which may not be accessible via a search engine,’ he added.
During his interview, Kapur stressed on the fact that, there is no harm in integrating the modern knowledge with the traditional knowledge. He urged that there is no unendurable difference which cannot be overcome by the two generations to enhance unity in the families. Kapur also pointed out that while youths are technologically savvy and get information in advance, they lack the first-hand, valuable experiences that the elders have to provide.
In Binny and Family Kapur’s role exemplifies this point. The main character, who is a professor, has a lot to learn and comes to realize that he needs to know the young generation. The movie lays emphasis on conflict rising when grandparents live with their child’s family, with emphasis on conflict arising in a cross generational family.
Speaking to Kapur, the film’s writer and director, Sanjay Tripathy received accolades for coming up with a script that portrayed most of the intergenerational relations well. He pointed out the fact that Tripathy and his father were both professors which made the position more personal to him. While explaining how professors are so successful in engaging with the younger generation, Kapur emphasizes that since teaching is their profession, they would certainly know how to win the hearts of younger generations.
Binny and Family will be available from September 20. Based on the plot, the movie narrates the story of a proud young girl, Binny who is free spirited and the troubles that come with her grandparents moving into her parents’ home.
