What enhanced the story telling in the production of this documentary is a recorded telephone interview between Lennon and a close friend and a drummer Jim Keltner, which was recorded eight years before Lennon was killed. While on this call, Lennon discusses how he has knowledge of the risks involved with his political activism. He bursts, “Which people? Do you mean people who are attempting to assassinate us or something to that effect, I will not shoot myself. This will cause people to stir in an interesting way.”
Some of the things that Lennon had said in the phone call prove that he knows the dangers, but at the same time, he is ready for them and even challenges them. To a journalist he openly confessed that he began tapping his phone calls because he became a little paranoid.
One to One: John and Yoko also contains personal and unknown videos with Lennon and Ono, performances and historical videos, for example, speeches of President Richard Nixon. This particular documentary presents the aspect of the private life of Lennon at home with Ono and their son, Sean. It reveals the creativity and the rebelliousness of Lennon, and moves beyond previous conventional narratives of the star’s life and work.
The movie will premiere at the Venice Film Festival and through this perspective, the fans and the viewers will get to know the last days of John Lennon.
