Chandigarh Traffic Alert: On September 2, 2024, hundreds of farmers from Punjab gathered at the Sector 34 Carnival Ground in Chandigarh to protest against what they call the Punjab government’s “failure” to fulfill their promises. The protest, organized under the banners of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ugrahan and the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union (PKMU), will see the farmers camp at the site for four days. On September 5, they plan to hold a meeting to decide their next steps.

The Chandigarh Administration has permitted a group of 1,000 farmers from Ekta Ugrahan to protest at Matka Chowk. The protesters plan to march from Sector 34 to Matka Chowk at 3 p.m. today.
Due to the protest, the Chandigarh Traffic Police have issued an advisory warning of potential traffic diversions and restrictions. The following roads may be affected:
- Sarovar Path: From Gaushala Chowk (Sectors 44-45-50-51) to Burail Chowk (Sectors 33-34, 44-45) to Sectors 33-34 Light Point, and to New Labour Chowk (Sectors 33-34, 20-21).
- Sector 34: Traffic on the V-4 road of Sector 34 and the V-5 road of Sector 34 A/B will be diverted, especially near Shyam Mall, the T-Point opposite Polka Bakery, the Flower Market, and the Dispensary.
- Sectors 33-34 Light Point to Sectors 34-35 Light Point: Potential traffic disruptions.
- Dakshin Marg: No turns into Sarovar Path will be allowed for the general public.
- Shanti Path: Traffic will be redirected from the Sectors 33-45 Light Point, with turns towards Sarovar Path not allowed.
Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid inconvenience due to the ongoing protest and traffic diversions in Chandigarh.
