Taylor Swift Praises Charli XCX, Calls Her 'Surreal and Inventive'

Taylor Swift has recently put to rest any rumors of a feud with fellow musician Charli XCX. In an interview with New York Magazine, Swift expressed her admiration for Charli, praising her as a talented and innovative artist. The two have a history of collaboration, with Charli XCX opening for Swift during her 2018 Reputation World Tour. However, their relationship had come under scrutiny after the release of Charli’s sixth studio album, BRAT, which led to speculation about a possible rift between them.

Taylor Swift Praises Charli XCX’s Music

Taylor Swift has long been a fan of Charli XCX’s music, revealing in the interview that she was “blown away” by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since she first heard her song “Stay Away” in 2011. Swift described Charli’s songwriting as “surreal and inventive,” noting that she has consistently taken her music in unexpected directions over the years. “She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off,” Swift said.

The rumors of a feud between Taylor Swift and Charli XCX were fueled by a track from Charli’s album BRAT titled “Sympathy is a Knife.” The song features lyrics that led many fans to believe it was aimed at Swift. Lines like “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show, Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick,” sparked speculation that Charli was referencing Swift’s past relationship with Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975. This speculation was further fueled by the fact that Charli is engaged to Healy’s bandmate, George Daniel.

However, Charli XCX denied that the song was about Swift or any specific person. She explained that “Sympathy is a Knife” is more about her own insecurities and feelings of self-doubt, rather than a critique of someone else. “People will think what they want to think,” Charli said, emphasizing that the song is a reflection of her inner emotions rather than a public statement about someone else.

Another highlight of Taylor Swift Charli XCX’s recent work is her collaboration with Lorde, a fellow contemporary musician. The remix of the track “Girl, So Confusing” featuring Lorde explores the complicated relationship shared by the two artists. This collaboration has been praised by fans and critics alike, adding another layer of depth to Charli’s latest album.
